Stand on This

Lately, I've been sitting down and having coffee with the foundations of my faith. Whether it's hurricane season in my heart or summer in my soul, I'm forced to land my feet on these things:

1) God exists - I can't deny this. In fact, it's confirmed by my first thought in the morning.
2) I exist - I can't deny this. *pinches arm* Yup, I'm real.
3) If the prior are both true, I have purpose. I was created with a destiny in mind.
4) And, if all that is true, I'll only find out my specific destiny by getting to know my creator. If' He's brilliant enough to design me, He's brilliant enough to carry out a plan for me. Come to think of it, He is brilliance.

I'm pondering faith right now. More to come on that, but isn't it funny, it can actually take more faith not to believe in a creator.

It sounds like you have been convincing yourself of this fact for a long time, Josh. If I had delusions that Martians were controlling my thoughts I might have a sincere belief that this is true. However belief and reality are not the same.

    "2) I exist - I can't deny this. *pinches arm* Yup, I'm real.
    3) If the prior are both true, I have purpose. I was created with a destiny in mind."

How so? Even if there is a higher being out there, what makes you think that it is interested in you or anyone else? Because a bunch of ancient sheep farmers in the Sinai Peninsula wrote their mythology into a set of scrolls you have to believe that? C'mon Josh, you are capable of more intellect than that.

"4) And, if all that is true, I'll only find out my specific destiny by getting to know my creator. If' He's brilliant enough to design me, He's brilliant enough to carry out a plan for me. Come to think of it, He is brilliance."

I hope he/she/it is if he/she/it does exist. Nevertheless, see responses to 1 through 3. Don't make yourself miserable or deluded based upon your hopes or fears of pleasing a being that, quite frankly, most likely exists only in the head of yourself and fellow "believers."

How do you figure? There is absolutely no evidence of any of the supernatural events described in any of the religious books of the world. NONE. ZIP. ZERO. Even your fellow Christians criticize modern day faith healers as using hysteria, trickery, and mind control to manipulate their followers. The funny thing is that they are right on this point, but they fail miserably to apply their skepticism to the miracles of Jesus. Do you really believe that the historical Jesus actually found a way to brake the laws of physics to walk on water??? That is some parlor trick. Why are there no corroborating writings of this miracle from some source other than the bible? How about cooroborating sources for any of the miracles described in the bible?
